Woodside House is a quality 4 Star self-catering holiday home that sleeps 14. Located in the lovely Derwent Valley, a perfect spot from which to explore the Peak District and the glorious countryside of Derbyshire, the house makes a spacious venue for a large family holiday or celebration.

Built in the 1840s as a home for the Chief Engineer during the building of the Midland Railway, this superb house nestles in an area of natural beauty near the historic town of Belper, located at the gateway to the Peak District National Park. Bordering on 555 miles of natural beauty with lush farmland and peaceful dales to the south, and rugged moorland and peaks in the north, Woodside holiday house is within easy reach of all the activities the Peaks have to offer. From walking, cycling, climbing and caving, to watersports and fishing, there is so much for do for all ages.

The area boasts many of Britain's finest heritage sites too including the stunning National Trust property of Chatsworth House.

With some 2500km of public rights of way, the Peak District National Park really is a walker's haven. Its varied landscape of beautiful forest, dark peaks and dancing rivers is equally suited to a gentle stroll, or a energetic uphill hike. If you prefer two wheels, then the cycle paths and mountain biking opportunities suit all levels of fitness. For watersports, nearby Carsington Water offers sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, powerboating and fishing. Or climb the crags towering high above the water at the River Derwent, and take in the beautiful countryside from a new angle.

For children, the Tramway Village theme park provides thrills, spills and amusements and Alton Towers, the most famous theme park in the country is also a 30 minute drive away.

The house is well connected for public transport - Ambergate railway station is a mere 100 meters away and local buses link the towns of Belper, Matlock, Derby (form national train connections), and Bakewell so you can easily sample the unique character and hospitality of each of these historic market towns. This house is easily accessible from the M1 and the A38 too, making it a good location for a short break.

Accommodation

This is 4 star holiday accommodation that has been decorated to a high standard, furnished with Spanish tiles and stripped pine, a woodburning stove, an ample dining table and loads of comfortable seating. The house is spacious enough for a large family to enjoy different activities under the same roof making this holiday home everything you need for a relaxing and enjoyable family getaway.

Downstairs, the open plan layout consists of lounge with enough seating for 16, as well as table football and a games area. Double doors lead to the conservatory, equipped with a DVD, Sky TV and a large selection of family films. The conservatory has beautiful views over the Derwent Valley. Decorated with Spanish tiles, stripped pine beams and a wood burning stove creates a warm, welcoming feel. Logs for the fire are supplied all year round and the house benefits from oil-fired central heating, included in the rental.

The dining area is equipped with a table that seats 14 and the thoughtfully designed kitchen is ideal for catering for the larger party, equipped with a double electrice oven, American style fridge-freezer and ice-maker, a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble drier. A separate wash room with wash hand basin, and WC is also located downstairs as is bedroom number one, with en-suite, perfect for the less able visitor, making Woodside House a fantastic holiday home for all generations of your family.

Looking for a holiday home with lots of outside space? Here, a large front terrace complete with seating area is has fine views up to the gorgeous wooded Derwent Valley. The terrace is inset with a giant tiled chessboard. A second secluded large terrace is situated to the rear of the house, complete with covered barbecue, seating area, and a rustic large dining table, lovely for outside dining, whatever the weather.

This 4 star vacation property can accommodate 14 easily, in its 6 bedrooms, 5 of which are en-suite. On ground level a family bedroom with double bed and extra single comes with ensuite shower. There is also space for a cot in this room. The first floor has four bedrooms, two with double king-sized beds and two with twin. All have ensuite shower or bathroom. At the top of the house the final bedroom, a vaulted attic room, has 3 beds and play dens under the eaves. It has an ensuite basin and WC. Five of the bedrooms come equipped with wall-mounted TVs - so you can avoid arguing over the remote!

What's included

Fresh linen, logs for the woodburner, heating and electricity are included within the price. Well behaved dogs are welcome. Smoking is not permitted at Woodside House.

Woodside House is situated in the village of Ambergate, the gateway to the Peak District, Derbyshire. More detailed directions are provided on booking.

Change over day is Friday - and guests are asked to vacate the property by 10am. New guests are welcomed from 3pm. Short breaks are available - please enquire.
