This area is one of vast panoramic expanses, rolling hills, heathlands, wild coastlines and beaches. Groom’s Cottage is ideally placed to access all these natural wonders and offers guests many opportunities to visit places of historical interest too. Bamburgh Castle, only 10 miles away, is a site of extensive historical significance reaching as far back as 12,000 B.C. to the Neolithic tribes and has been continuously occupied for over 2000 years. Bamburgh offers visitors beautiful wild stretches of coastline with sea birds wheeling and swooping above in addition to its’ long history. Birdwatchers, walkers and history buffs can all enjoy a fantastic day out.

Just a few miles further south is Alnwick Castle with its exquisite gardens. Explore everything from the famous Grand Cascade to the intriguing Poison Garden or wander through trails of the Woodland Walk.

The children can play hide and seek in the twisting trails of the Bamboo Garden or at being Robin Hood and his merry men in the Treehouse with its sky walkways and wobbly rope bridges. Alnwick offers the family an interesting and informative day out with imaginative activities for the children and a selection of mouthwatering fare at four venues within the Castle grounds.

Close to the Groom’s Cottage are the only wild cattle left in the world. The totally unique Chillingham Wild Cattle live in 365 acres of parkland and have done so for over 700 years. At less than 3 miles by car or a bracing walk across the heathland it is an experience not to be missed. If you enjoy wildlife then Chillingham Park is an ideal spot to visit as it is also home to many other animals such as fox, deer, badger and red squirrels and many bird species.

Perhaps sport is more your interest than history? Groom’s Cottage is ideally placed for hikers, mountain bikers, riders and walkers with the Northumberland National Park only 5 miles away. If watersports are your interest then it is just a short trip to Seahouses on the Northumberland coast. Surfing, sailing, and snorkelling are all on offer and bicycles can be hired to do a bit of exploring the coast. Don’t forget that there are no fewer than 5 golf courses within 20 miles of Groom’s Cottage giving every level of golfer an opportunity to challenge themselves on a new course.

There are many opportunities for fishermen. Stocked fishing lakes are within walking distance. River & sea fishing are nearby.

Accommodation

Upon entering the porch of this beautiful stone built cottage visitors are enveloped in the warmth that Groom’s Cottage offers. This 4-star cottage is light and bright with large windows providing gorgeous views of the Cheviot Hills whilst the interior is warm and inviting. The open plan kitchen/ living area allows guests to chat and cook at the same time. The warmth of the wooden floors throughout the property is echoed by the cabinets in this streamlined country kitchen. All mod cons are provided in this newly fitted kitchen with a fridge/freezer, microwave, electric cooker and washing machine. The comfy sofas in the living room are placed to take full advantage of the gorgeous views and a cosy wood burning stove sits tucked into the inglenook fireplace. The bedrooms are flooded with light and guests can wake up to views of the magnificent countryside after spending the night sleeping peacefully in the calm, neutrally decorated rooms. The bathroom is furnished with a pedestal basin, WC and a shower over the bath. All the linens and towels are provided for your stay. Outside is your own private garden. On the patio there is a table and four chairs and it is ideal for dining al fresco or having a cup of coffee whilst enjoying a good book.

Groom’s Cottage offers guests the availability of DIY livery if they wish to bring their horses to explore this vast hinterland. In addition, there is a secure storage shed for your sports equipment and private onsite parking. As Groom’s Cottage is all on one level is it quite accessible. It is a non-smoking property and well behaved pets are welcome by arrangement.
