Suffolk is the most diverse, in terms of landscape, of the three counties that make up East Anglia, and, from a visitor's point of view, has all the attributes that make up a classic English county. The rolling Suffolk countryside dotted with picturesque farmhouses, the fenland which stretches for mile after mile, the charming towns and villages with their ancient churches, the secluded rivers with willows trailing their branches in the water, to the beaches with their unblemished sand and untouched wildlife. This is the county of Constable and Gainsborough, and the idyllic scenes they painted can still be seen in the landscape today. Suffolk is littered with flint-walled cottages, windmills, Tudor manor houses, Saxon and Medieval churches - all thanks to the humble sheep. There is such a wealth of fabulous architecture in Suffolk, and most of it so well preserved, that you can sometimes feel that you have stepped back in time. The range of self-catering cottages to rent in Suffolk is immense - there are some idyllic Suffolk cottages in pretty villages, houses by the Suffolk coast, including cottages to hire in Aldeburgh, Beccles and Woodbridge - all perfect for a family holiday or short break in Suffolk.
