Nestled in a quiet enclave away from the road, The West Wing at Gypsy Hall enjoys a peaceful position and offers lots of original features, making this a perfect getaway for those looking for a property that is packed with history. With parts dating back to the 1700s, this quirky property will appeal to those looking to enjoy beams, interestingly angled walls and lots of charm! Once five cottages, primarily for agricultural workers, Gypsy Hall also became home to refugees during the war. Lovingly converted to reflect its heritage, The West Wing is adjacent to the owner’s home. Accessed via a rough track, it is surrounded by fields and paddocks with the owner’s beautiful horses in. With a lovely modern kitchen which is also home to the small living area, you can sit and chat while dinner is being made, perfect for those who love to be sociable while cooking.
If you can tear yourself away, you will find that nearby Newmarket offers lots of great places to eat, drink and shop, and also has a famous racecourse which has been home to the ‘sport of kings’ since 1605. Here you will also find free tours and The National Horse Racing Museum. The university city of Cambridge also lies within easy reach. You can hop on a train from nearby Dullingham Station and be there in 15 minutes, or take the ‘Park and Ride’. There is so much to see and do in Cambridge that you will be spoilt for choice, but do try and make time for punting on the river, or enjoy a guided walking tour. History lovers and culture vultures will make for the Fitzwilliam Museum or one of the many other museums and galleries.
You will also find yourself within reach of the Imperial War Museum Duxford and National Trust properties Ickworth House, Park and Gardens and Anglesey Abbey and Gardens.
Also close by lies the cathedral city of Ely, where you will soon see why the cathedral is known as ‘the ship of the fens’ as it rises up on the horizon as you approach. There are lots of great places to eat and shop here too, along with attractions including The Stained Glass Museum and Oliver Cromwell’s House. Don’t forget to make time to visit Bury St Edmunds too with its numerous attractions and famous abbey. All in all, with so much to see and do, you will be pleased to return to Gypsy Hall for a good night’s sleep. Shop 4 miles, pub and restaurant 400 yards.
