From the moment you turn in to the long driveway that leads to Grade II listed Bury’s Hall, you will know you have arrived somewhere very special. Set amongst the owners beautifully designed private gardens and enjoying its own garden with a small orchard, this detached, single-storey cottage is an absolute delight. The village of Ashill itself dates back to the 14th-century and provided an overnight stop for those who wanted to graze their cattle on the way to nearby Swaffham market. Set in the district of Breckland, you will find an area that is just waiting to be explored, with Sandringham and Oxborough Hall just over half an hour way.

To the south is Thetford Forest, perfect for watching wildlife, walking or cycling. Here you will also find High Lodge and GoApe. Close by lies Banham Zoo, a 50-acre site home to more than 2,000 animals, which is a great place to spend a day.

Do make time to visit the medieval city of Norwich too, with its splendid Norman Castle, numerous museums and its famous ’Lanes’ area, made up of small and quirky independent shops and cafes.

For a change of pace, you can head to the coast, with the beautiful North Norfolk Coast just under an hour away. There are many opportunities for bird watching, great walks, cycling, National Trust sites and stately homes, and you will soon see why this quiet corner of Norfolk sees guests return time after time.
