No light pollution makes it a perfect spot to enjoy and take delight in all the stars visible on a clear night. Situated at a point equidistant to the villages of Rocklands and Great Ellingham, there is easy access to local pubs serving food and to the well-stocked village shops.
Within a radius of ten miles are the market towns of Wymondham and Watton.
A little further afield are the historic towns of Bury St Edmunds, the Angel Hotel immortalised by Charles Dickens, Thetford, it’s surrounding forests giving opportunity for walking, cycling and picnicking, and Swaffham with its gracious Georgian market square and wealth of independent shops. A few of the many places of interest include Grimes Graves, a Neolithic flint mine, Castle Acre Priory ruins, a very well-preserved monastic site, the Bressingham Steam Railway and steam collection, with the Official Dads Army exhibition, and the Norfolk Tank Museum at Forncett St Peter.
Blickling Hall and Oxburgh Hall are nearby National Trust properties. The amazing North Norfolk coastline is but an hour’s drive away. There are excellent sandy beaches, a coastal path and the RSPB nature and bird reserves. The seaside towns of Sheringham and Cromer are a delight.
Less than an hour away is the fine cathedral city of Norwich. It boasts a wealth of historic and beautiful buildings as well as the Norman castle, museums and a large and very long-established market. There are two shopping malls as well as the small independent shops and eateries to be found in ‘The Lanes’.
A boat can be hired for the day or a river trip taken at Wroxham, capital of the Broads. Or spend some time in Holt with its historic buildings, wonderful shops and enticing cafes. Head coastal and you will reach Blakeney with its picturesque quay and the opportunity to walk or sail to see the seals. Further on along the coast is the seaside resort of Wells next the Sea with an interesting harbour, a sandy beach and a busy town centre. The university city of Cambridge and the horse racing centre of Newmarket are both within an hour’s ride
