You are sure to leave part of your heart at Fodderston Mill, which is packed with personality and original features. Boasting two wood burners, beams, exposed brickwork and a games room too, the present building was constructed in around 1830, probably on the site of an old post mill. It had five floors, four sails, a farmhouse and outbuildings. Comparatively large, it was probably in full time use for around 70 years. Sadly, at the turn of the 20th century, many of this type of mill became redundant and fell into disrepair, due to the importing of milled corn from the colonies. But Fodderston Mill has been loved and cherished and is just waiting for you to come and make some new memories with loved ones.
With lovely gardens to welcome summer guests, and those lovely wood burners for the cooler months, this charming and quirky property really is the perfect year-round choice for guests looking for something a little different. History buffs will enjoy visits to Peckover House, the Sandringham, Holkham and Houghton Estates, the Hanseatic Old Quarter of Kings Lynn, the medieval city of Norwich with its splendid Norman castle, and even Ely with its magnificent cathedral.
Nature lovers will find much to enjoy too with Welney Wetlands, Thetford Forest and Snettisham Marshes within easy reach. Coast lovers can find themselves at the gateway to the stunning coastline in just under half an hour.
Walk along the sand dunes in Heacham or head to Hunstanton with its many seaside attractions including a Sealife Centre, seasonal boat trips to see the seals, a small funfair and lots of other seaside attractions. Travel east from here and find a string of pretty coastal villages boasting wide sand and shingle beaches, salt and clay marshes and picturesque quays. And after working up an appetite, you will be pleased to discover Norfolk’s burgeoning foodie scene with lots of great places to eat, many of which serve local produce. Then return to Fodderston Mill to relax unwind and enjoy a great night’s sleep. Beach 19 miles
