This semi-rural retreat rests right in the heart of Northumberland’s luscious countryside. The Old Post Office dates back to the 1850’s and holds some interesting history. When entering, some artistic finishes will be sure to catch your eye throughout this charming abode.
Whip off your walking boots and head into the comfortable lounge, the perfect room for a social gathering in front of the feature wood burner on chillier evenings. When the evening draws in crack open a bottle of wine and sink into the plush sofas whilst watching one of your favourite movies. Head into the country style kitchen - with a modern twist! Where the designated chef will delight, The Old Post Office provides all amenities needed to cook up a storm for everybody to gather and enjoy. Pop your wine in the wine cooler before heading out into the garden, a truly delightful enclosed and pretty space to spend a summers evening - and if the weather takes a turn you can still enjoy the outdoors sitting in the large arbor.
Retire upstairs to one of two bedrooms; the master is a king room with a gorgeous Scandinavian feel. The second bedroom is a cosy double. Refresh in the bathroom ahead of an exciting day and choose between a relaxing bath or invigorating shower. The toilet is separate but just directly next door.
Head into the village of Powburn where you will find some small shops including a garage, antiques shop, cafe, and small grocery store that even sells some delicious locally sourced fresh crab! Although the village is very small there is some of the best countryside to explore. There are stunning walks, cycle routes, and not to mention breath taking views to be enjoyed. A 10-mile drive brings you to the historic market town of Alnwick where you can start your adventure at the incredible and famous Alnwick Castle, one of the largest inhabited castles in the UK and used as Hogwarts when filming scenes for the Harry Potter films with related events organised throughout the year as well as guided tours.
The Alnwick Garden is also an exciting visit with its spectacular interpretation of a formal garden, including the Grand Cascade waterfall, poison garden and largest tree house in Europe where guests can dine in the restaurant.
An 8-mile drive further North brings you to Wooler Known locally as ‘the gateway to The Cheviots’ Wooler is a delightful, historic market town on the banks of the River Till, one of the tributaries of the Tweed, nestling in the foothills of the Cheviots which form part of the Pennine Way. Powburn is centrally located to access some of Northumberland’s best beauty spots and beaches.
