All on one level and renovated to the highest of standards, the property offers a large open plan kitchen and living area with wooden floors, exposed beams and an excellent standard of fixtures and fittings. The shower room is worthy of high praise with a top quality shower cubicle, heated towel rail and underfloor heating. The bedroom is spacious, light and well-presented throughout, with a kingsize bed and French doors opening out on to the private patio to the rear. Surrounded by fields and open countryside, yet only 4 miles away from the popular market town of Barnard Castle, The Cottage at Northside Farm Retreat provides a perfect base for exploring the local area and planning great days out in County Durham and North Yorkshire.
Guests wanting to visit the historic market town of Barnard Castle will not be disappointed. Only a short drive away, the town stands on the site of an ancient Roman fort which crosses the River Tees.
The medieval ruins of the castle still stand on the banks of the river and are well worth a visit. With a weekly farmers market, plenty of places to eat and drink and also a variety of shops, galleries and antiques stores, there really is something to offer for all tastes. The very popular Bowes Museum is also worth a visit; with the ever changing exhibitions all year round, a quaint tea shop, café and beautiful grounds to enjoy, guests will find themselves surrounded by much beauty and history. The cottage is also brilliantly located for guests who enjoy walking or cycling, with nearby attractions including the breathtaking High Force, England’s highest waterfall. Do not miss a visit to the historic Raby Castle, traditional Eggleston Hall and its walled gardens, and Egglestone Abbey, which is an abandoned monastery on the banks of the River Tees. Reeth, Leyburn and the North Yorkshire Dales National Park are all under an hour’s drive away and offer some fabulous walking and cycling routes as well as magnificent scenery and countryside. The ancient market town of Richmond is just over ten miles away and has some super places to enjoy a quiet romantic meal for two, as does the cathedral city of Durham which has a thriving program of street festivals, entertainment and arts, as well as great places to eat, drink and shop.
However, The Cottage at Northside Farm Retreat is equally perfect for guests wanting to enjoy their time on-site. With a top class relaxation area, sauna and dipping tub to hand for those lazy hours away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, guests will find themselves immersed in luxury. For a more energetic afternoon, guests can take the opportunity to book the full-size, on-site court for a friendly game of tennis, however guests do need to bring their own tennis rackets and balls. It is ideal for a couple wanting to relax, unwind and treat themselves, as guests can enjoy use of all of the facilities, at an extra cost, with prior agreement with the owner. Whatever the weather and whatever the occasion, The Cottage at Northside Farm Retreat really is a special place to stay and guests will find themselves not wanting to leave. Shop and restaurant 4 miles, pub 1 mile.
