Bishop's Cottage
2 bedrooms, sleeps 4

Bishop’s Cottage is a super cottage in a brilliant location, a real gem at any time of year, with the Kynren Spectacular and Lumiere Festival nearby.

Tucked away in the middle of a row of traditional terraced cottages, Bishop’s Cottage is warm, welcoming and the perfect place for families to enjoy the nearby entertainment. Totally refurbished throughout in 2018, this traditional cottage maintains all of its charm and character alongside modern and tasteful design. The living room and dining area are cosy and well-presented with comfortable furnishings and a wood burner. The kitchen is modern and fitted with good quality appliances throughout. The downstairs bathroom has been finished to a super standard and offers a shower over bath, and heated towel rail. On the first floor you will find a second toilet as well as a lovely double bedroom and super twin bedroom with views across the fields and countryside. Outside there is a small sitting-out area and charcoal barbecue for summer evenings.
Situated a little over a mile from the town of Bishop Auckland, where you will find an abundance of attractions just a short drive or walk away. Steeped in history Bishop Auckland offers a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as historical attractions including Auckland Castle and the now famous Kynren Spectacular which is showcased between June and September each year.

The epic performance of Kynren charts over 2000 years of British history, myth and legend. The show itself uses a cast of thousands of volunteers from the area and unfolds upon a landscaped, open air stage which is huge in size and has a full size lake at its centre. This is one event that you really must book, if only to see the dazzling pyrotechnics and shimmering light show, all within the back drop of Auckland Castle. You can even look out towards the Eleven Arches event area and see the fireworks from the garden of the cottage!
The location is also perfect for guests wanting to visit the cathedral city of Durham, Bishop’s Cottage is situated about a 15-minute drive away. Popular tourist attractions include the Lumiere Festival, held every two years, the annual jazz festival, book week, arts week, the theatre, castle and cathedral as well as many designer boutiques and shops.

The location is a great base for guests with friends and family based at Durham University as the main campuses are all within an easy 20-minute drive. If you enjoy a walking or cycling holiday then Bishop’s Cottage provides a great base for exploring County Durham by foot or by cycle. Hamsterley Forest is only 7 miles away and is a delightful 4900-acre site of popular walking trails, including the Gruffalo Trail, cycle trails and orienteering, as well as plenty of spots for the perfect picnic. Only 1½ miles away you will find the village of Escomb which is home to Escomb Church, the earliest Saxon church in Britain. Witton Castle in Witton-le-Wear is 5 miles away and offers fly fishing, a bird sanctuary, historic castle and beautiful grounds. The National Railway Museum in Shildon is only 3 miles away, and is another great destination for a fun filled day out for all ages. Shop 1 mile, pub and restaurant 2 mile
