Nestled away in the quiet village of Tanfield in County Durham, The Coachman’s House is in the perfect location to enjoy a peaceful romantic break. Private, yet not too secluded, this detached cottage offers rest and relaxation for those guests who want to enjoy total relaxation. Also perfect for small families wanting to explore the local area, County Durham and the north east, there are excellent transport links to a variety of popular locations all within an easy 30-minute drive.

The very popular Beamish Living Museum is located only 4 miles away and is the perfect destination for guests of all ages at any time of year. Thrill seeking guests should take this opportunity to visit Beamish Wild and enjoy a day on the open-air rope courses, as well as taking a visit through the Living Museum itself which features a 1900’s town, 1940’s farm and a 1900’s pit village.

There is an old fashioned sweet shop, fish and chip shop and even an ice rink in the winter months.

The cathedral city of Durham is just a little over 12 miles away, where guests will be able to explore this UNESCO World Heritage site. Thriving and bustling all year round, Durham offers a weekly farmer’s market, live theatre, boat trips, Durham Castle, Durham Cathedral, bistros, restaurants, cafés and boutique shops, as well as street entertainment including the Brass Festival, Jazz Week, Book Week, Lumiere and many more. The Coachman’s House is also brilliantly located for guests wanting to visit friends and family at Durham University, with all of the campuses being within a 30-minute drive of the cottage, perfect for taster weeks and graduation ceremonies.

The city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne is also just under a 30-minute drive away and guests will be able to take the opportunity to visit The Sage, Newcastle Metro Arena, St James Park and also enjoy the nightlife of the popular city centre. The Angel of the North, 6½ miles, the Metrocentre, 7 miles, and Durham County Cricket Club, 8 miles, are all within very easy driving distance.

For walkers, cyclists and guests wanting to travel a little further afield, the neighbouring county of Northumberland offers many footpaths, cycle paths and historic routes along Hadrian’s Wall and The Military Road, and can all be reached within a 60-minute drive.
