Murphy’s Cottage is an excellent choice for those seeking a homely base that gives easy access to explore the beautiful Northumberland coastline.
Murphy’s Cottage is an attractive, stone-built cottage nestled in the picture perfect village of Rennington in Northumberland. This end-terrace property has been thoughtfully furnished, and is conveniently situated all on the ground floor, ideal for less mobile guests. The large garden to the rear of the property is an idyllic spot to enjoy al fresco dining. The local pub offers good locally sourced food and is within a gentle stroll of Murphy’s Cottage. Dating back to 1841, the pub was once a blacksmiths, and has been family owned for over 30 years. Rennington is a quiet, picturesque village, situated 4 miles north east of the historic market town of Alnwick. Every August bank holiday the village comes alive as it hosts a popular scarecrow festival. This colourful display of scarecrows dotted around the village, and even perhaps in Murphy’s Cottage’s garden, is sure to delight both young and old alike.
Alnwick has a wide array of amenities including a cinema/playhouse, restaurants, independent shops and a variety of pubs. Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland and film location for Harry Potter, is a popular visitor attraction. Or visit The Alnwick Garden, a spectacular interpretation of a formal garden, including a grand cascade waterfall, poison garden, and the largest tree house restaurant in Europe!
There is a stunning golden sandy beach found in the pretty coastal village of Embleton, only 4 miles from the cottage. The picture postcard village of Alnmouth, with its wide expanse of golden sandy beach and a variety of good restaurants, pubs, tea rooms and gift shops, is just 6 miles away. Golf enthusiasts will delight in the two courses, one being a fine 9-hole course adjacent to the beach and the other a challenging 18-hole course at Foxton, enjoying panoramic views.
Head 9 miles along the coastal path and you will find the village of Beadnell, popular for watersports enthusiasts and the magnificent Beadnell Bay. Visit Seahouses, a further 2 miles north, and take a boat trip to the Farne Islands to watch the puffins at play (seasonal). Bamburgh Castle is a further 3 miles up this stunning coastline and well worth a visit. The historic fishing village of Craster is approximately 4 miles away and is home to the world famous Craster kipper, and the atmospheric ruin of Dunstanburgh Castle is close by. With easy access to the beautiful 20-mile stretch of Northumberland Heritage Coast, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and wild expanses of the heather-capped Cheviot Hills to the west, Murphy’s Cottage makes the perfect home from home.
