Conveniently close to local wedding venues and the beautiful Heritage coast, Cherry Tree Cottage is a detached bungalow offering a perfect base to explore coast and countryside in County Durham. With beautiful gardens front and back giving an oasis of relaxation, plentiful seating areas amongst shrubs and flower beds making it a peaceful spot to sit and listen to the birds and enjoy a cuppa or read a book. The patio area has a table and chairs, perfect for some alfresco eating with a charcoal BBQ and cosy firepit to keep you warm as the sun goes down.
Out and about, you can enjoy a walk at nearby Castle Eden Dene, a Site of Special Scientific Interest and home to an extraordinary variety of birds, plants and wildlife. Children will enjoy a trip to Tweddle’s animal farm or the rock pools at Blackhall Rocks. The Durham Heritage coast is within 15 minutes’ drive with Crimdon Dene beach and Seaham with its attractive seafront, marina and variety of restaurants, shops and coffee shops.
Hartlepool Historic Quay is home to the Trincomalee – Europe’s oldest floating warship, where you can amble round the marina and stop for a coffee or a spot of lunch at one of the many restaurants. Ideally placed near the A19 for those wishing to explore further afield, with the Scottish Border region, the Lake District and Northumberland all within easy reach.
Durham city with its stunning cathedral, a UNESCO world heritage site, and castle, as well as its world-famous university, is easily accessible with a 20-minute drive. The city of Newcastle or Metro Centre offer first-class shopping experiences. Explore the Durham countryside of Teesdale, Weardale or Tynedale, all set in the wonderful north Pennines, An Area of Natural Beauty.
At the end of the day and thoughts turn to food, there are two country pubs nearby serving food and drink, and for a special dining experience a lovely Italian restaurant within a 5 minute walk.
