Extra Amenities

Set on the quiet side of Otterburn Hall lodge park, backing onto trees, this single-storey, detached lodge is perfect for couples or a small family. The squirrels sometimes come and sit on the decking when it is quiet and there are plenty of birds and wildlife around. The lodge has been furnished and designed to a good standard, with lots of quirky touches and a modern rustic feel. There are bright open living spaces and picture windows looking out onto a field at the side. The property is set within the boundary of the Northumberland National Park, perfect for stargazing on a clear night whilst relaxing in the private hot tub. The park is just 1 mile from a popular local wedding venue and guests often like to stay at The Drey and make a real weekend of the visit to Otterburn. On-site is a restaurant with a small bar serving some great food (limited opening times) but the pub in the village is just under a mile away serving locally sourced food and ales.

The village has a good shop serving local fayre.

Nearby Bellingham, 9 miles, has an array of large and small independent shops, as well as a few cafés and pubs. Whilst staying in Otterburn take a trip over to Kielder Water where you can spend a day stopping off at the various visitor centres along the water or hop on the ferry for a tour. Kielder is a hub for water sports enthusiasts, mountain bikers and walkers, or drop into the supposedly haunted Kielder Castle for a coffee. Hexham is around 25 miles away, with an abbey housing a 13th-century crypt, a weekly market and a larger selection of shops. Otterburn has easy access over to Alnwick and the Heritage Coastal Path through Rothbury or Morpeth where you will find miles of golden sandy beaches stretching the length of the coastline to Berwick.

Northumberland was voted the ’Top County to Holiday’ in 2018 by the Visit Britain Tourism Awards because of the diversity of landscapes, beautiful beaches, historic castles, Hadrian’s Wall and a gold tier International Dark Sky Park. Rugged hills, moors and of course the friendly locals all add to theNorthumbrian experience. Head over to Newcastle for the day to experience a true Geordie day out visiting the Quayside, stop at the Baltic Centre for afternoon tea or simply wander along Grey Street admiring the architecture and the Theatre Royal. There really is something for everything and Otterburn is a great base from which to travel and explore reputedly the friendliest county in England
