Arriving at West Hills Lodge, the first impression is of the stunning views and the peaceful location of this lovely holiday home, which is only a mile’s walk into the pretty market town of Rothbury. With large arch windows to soak in the views, a cosy and comforting wood burner set in a stone inglenook fireplace, beamed ceilings and a lovely spa bath to relax in, visitors will love the atmosphere in and around this Grade II former cart shed. If you have never fed an Alpaca before now is your chance, with the food provided by the owners you and the children are welcome to feed these friendly animals which are kept on this working beef and sheep farm. You can also purchase fresh eggs, beef or lamb. For wildlife lovers, the keen-eyed will spot a range of wildlife including hare, red squirrels, roe deer and a host of birds, including wax wings and sparrowhawks.
The large garden is ideal for relaxing in and just peacefully appreciating all the nature around you.
With cycle rides and walks straight from the door, the location is ideal whether you just want a leisurely stroll into the town to visit a friendly pub, have a spot of lunch at a café or wander on an evening and have an evening meal. More serious walkers will enjoy the Simonside Hills and valleys, with glorious dark skies being on the edge of the International Dark Sky Park, there really is something here for everyone. The property is adjoining a 2000-year-old iron age hillfort with panoramic views of Coquetdale.
Cragside House (National Trust) is only 2 miles away with plenty of quirky inventions and stunning gardens, something here for all ages to explore. Alnwick is only a half hour drive, where a trip to explore the very famous castle featured in Harry Potter and Downton Abbey shouldn’t be missed. It is easy to travel over to Hadrian’s Wall or onto the Northumberland National Park over to Kielder from here. The coast is as easy drive where miles of unspoilt sandy beaches make a lovely day out with plenty of historic castles and friendly villages to explore. Shops, pubs and restaurant 1 mile
