To the side of the property guests will find their own private hot tub hidden away within its own summerhouse, making it the most fabulous spot for an evening relaxing and enjoying a well-earned break. A perfect paradise for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers, these semi-detached cottages lie amidst an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and have far-reaching views across the Durham Dales. With a variety of established public footpaths, walks and cycle paths leading from Burnside, through the village of Rookhope and further out into the county itself. Guests will find themselves alongside the famous Coast to Coast cycle route, which stretches from the coast of Cumbria to the award-winning beaches of the north east. With a small shop, post office and local pub serving great quality food and drink, the village of Rookhope is a traditional and welcoming one and lies just under a mile away. A little further afield, but still only six miles away, guests will be able to visit the very popular market town of Stanhope. With a traditional high street bustling with small eateries, local pubs and independent shops Stanhope is a popular destination at any time of year. The local fish and chip shop is renowned as being one of the best in the county and the small traditional sweet shop is a great destination for guests of all ages. Stanhope is also home to the Durham Dales Visitor Centre which is always popular with guests wanting to find out more about the area.

The heated, open air swimming pool is a popular spot in the summer months and is open from May –September for guests brave enough to take the plunge! The popular Weardale Steam Railway has a stop at Stanhope too, and is a great way to see the countryside over the 18-mile stretch of railway. Guests with families must make sure to book ahead for the magnificent Train to Christmas Town journey over the winter months. Other popular villages in the area are Killhope which is home to the Lead Mining Museum, Allenheads, Frosterley, St John’s Chapel and Alston. A little further afield but still within an hour’s drive guests will be able to take a trip to the cathedral city of Durham which is famous for its cathedral and castle as well as many outdoor festivals including the Brass festival, Book Festival, jazz festival and Lumiere. The abbey town of Hexham, chic Corbridge, Hamsterley, Newcastle upon Tyne, Barnard Castle, Bishop Auckland and the fabulous beaches of the Northumberland coast offer guests plenty to visit, enjoy and explore in the region.
