Little Barn is, as its name suggests, is a tiny space but packed full of history and perfectly placed to deliver the splendour of the Lakes. It is a traditional, detached, stone-built converted barn that dates back to the 17th century. Once used for livestock and feed stores, more recently it housed a sailing boat in the lower barn area. It is set in natural, wooded gardens and features two dog-secure fenced garden areas. There are lots of original features, including a bespoke, craftsman-made bar-height table in the dining/living area and an antique walnut double bed in the little upstairs bedroom. The second bedroom, with en-suite facilities, is a twin featuring antique, 19th-century, carved and beeswax-polished pine beds that can be conjoined to a super kingsize on request. Please note that bedroom space is small and the upstairs bathroom features a slim and low shower cubicle, with a larger over-bath shower in the downstairs bathroom.
This two-bedroom, two-bathroom property is perfectly located for panoramic views from a coveted rural location, yet just a few minutes’ walk from the pubs, restaurants and shops of Ambleside, about a 12-minute walk down the hill.
Set into the side of Loughrigg Fell, this charming and quirky little property is in one of the Lake District’s most beautiful vantage points with a view of the sweeping fells that, from time to time, host the fast fliers of the RAF through the valley. Lake Windermere is a near neighbour and there are fabulous hikes, dog walks and mountain bike trails straight from the door. Turn up hill from Little Barn and explore the summit of Loughrigg. From the top you’ll enjoy a bird’s eye view across Grasmere and Rydal Water, also well within reach.
There is private parking for two cars and good anchor points for mountain bikes, this is a great spot for lovers of boots, bikes and barkers.
There are two outdoor seating areas, one with fire-pit/barbecue, and are complimented by a grandstand view from the living area balcony, the perfect spot for a morning cuppa or a glass of something chilled in the evening. The barn’s wood burner is great for cosy evenings in – and there’s a generous stock of logs. Squirrels are regular visitors, thanks to Little Barn’s hazel nut tree, and deer are neighbours.
Little Barn is all about the outdoor space and the panorama. There are steep steps to Little Barn’s raised front door, so the property isn’t suitable for those with limited mobility, toddlers and very young children. The property is up a steep private road which is also a footpath. Beach 25 miles. Shop and restaurant 1 mile, pub ¾ mile.
