Hastings’ beach has smooth pebbles and sand at low tide, with lifeguard cover between May and September. Explore the timber framed buildings in the old town, art galleries including The Jerwood, tea rooms and vintage shops.
Take the funicular railway to the West Hill and visit the remains of Hastings Castle, built by William, Duke of Normandy, after the 1066 Battle of Hastings. See the Blue Reef Aquarium, explore St Clements Caves located at Smugglers Adventure at West Hill, or watch the fishing boats land the day’s catch and purchase the fresh fish. Alternatively, take a stroll to the nearby Alexander Park with your fishing rod and catch your own supper! Walk along the pier, cycle along the promenade and enjoy the sea air.
Take a day trip to Battle Abbey and the famous Battlefield. Visit Rye, Bodiam Castle and many vineyards offering wine tasting, or a trip back in time on the Kent and East Sussex steam railway.
