Summers Cottage is an attractive, semi-detached cottage adjoining the owners’ home and is positioned at the head of the Bowcombe Valley, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It offers a central location ideal for exploring all the island has to offer. This comfortable cottage is suited for two couples or a family of four, with two double bedrooms, a spacious bathroom, kitchen, living room and dining room/conservatory. The large rear garden offers a raised decked seating area with excellent views towards Carisbrooke Castle.
The nearby village of Carisbrooke is only 250 yards away and is full of historical charm. Take a stroll up the hill to Carisbrooke Castle where you can learn about its rich history as a Saxon fortress, and most famously, how Charles I was held as a prisoner during the Civil War, shortly before his execution.
The Tennyson Trail to Alum Bay begins nearby. The island has become a real hot spot for cycling enthusiasts with a choice of challenging off-road bridleways, peaceful byways and level, purpose-made tracks running along former railway lines. You can cycle across the width of the island to the famous Needles landmark, or try the 66 mile round the island route, which is used for the annual Isle of Wight Randonnee, held over the bank holiday in May. You can also travel along the route at a more leisurely pace, stopping off along the way at one of the many restaurants, pubs and cafés that can be found in the quaint villages and towns.
Outdoor pursuits include horse riding, fishing, paragliding, golf and watersports. There are numerous attractions to discover for all ages, such as The Needles with its chairlift, amusement park, boat rides, lighthouse and coloured sands of Alum Bay, Blackgang Chine Theme Park, Dinosaur Isle, the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, Ventnor Botanical Gardens, Tapnell Farm Park, and of course, Carisbrooke Castle. You can even pay a visit to Queen Victoria’s favourite holiday residence, Osborne House and its gardens. The sailing towns of Yarmouth and Cowes also make for a great day out. Beach 7 miles.
