Built around 1865, Malt House Cottage is a delightful holiday home that’s been lovingly refurbished, awash with timber white and blue hues, a nautical nod to the historic sailing town of Yarmouth. As you explore the three floors of this former malting cottage, built for the now dormant factory warehouse next door, you will find a plethora of period features throughout.
Perfect for adults and children alike the cottage can accommodate up to 7 guests across four bedrooms and is also dog friendly.
Due to the cottage’s location in an historic town, there isn’t any long stay parking directly outside, however there is a convenient long stay car park close by on the River Yar, offering the chance to enjoy the protected vista and listen to the sound of the masts tinkling in the breeze.
On arrival, please pull in directly outside the cottage for unloading. Hook back the front gate and you’ll reveal the white passageway with original Welsh slate, very handy to line up your wellies, wet suits, dog leads and luggage for a quick unload. Once you’ve unpacked the car, please park in the nearby car park.
Enter into the kitchen, well-equipped with everything need during your stay, including a long table for dining. To the front of the house is a cosy living room with an original ornate fireplace, Smart TV and extra deep sofas ideal for chatting, snoozing or a movie night. On the first floor is a family bathroom and a large, peaceful super kingsize bedroom with space for a travel cot if required, alongside a single room at the back of the cottage suited for a teenager needing that bit of space. Steep stairs take you up to the second floor, where you can enjoy excellent views of Yarmouth’s skyline. Here there is another bathroom and two further bedrooms, comprising a twin room and another double bedroom with kingsize bed.
The cottage is conveniently located only 200 yards from the sea and the central square of this historic sailing town and harbour guarded by Yarmouth Castle, the last addition to Henry VIII sea defences. On the high street you will find an art gallery and unique jewellery shops. There is a good variety of food experiences to try in the town, and for traditional fish and chips make sure you order from the Blue Crab around the corner.
Explore the River Yar, with its wonderful estuary and nature reserve, and the network of walking and cycling routes extending to Tennyson Down and all the way to the amazing rock formations of The Needles and Alum Bay. Fantastic Totland Bay is also nearby where you will find a bar, restaurant and a café to try the local seafood, experience some of the finest sunsets or enjoy a stroll along to neighbouring Colwell Bay.
The island is hot spot for cycling enthusiasts with a choice of challenging off-road bridleways, peaceful byways and level tracks running along the former railway line. Cycle to the famous Needles landmark or take on the full round the island route, 66 miles long, and used for the annual Isle of Wight Randonnee held over the May Day Bank Holiday. You can also travel along the route at a more leisurely pace and along the way you will find numerous restaurants, pubs and cafés. Beach 200 yards. Shop 125 yards, pub 175 yards and restaurant 70 yards.
