Bar Cottage sits on a quiet street which meanders down to the pretty but bustling harbour of Port Isaac, which you may recognise as the TV set for ’Doc Martin’ the ever popular TV series they film in and around the village. The cottage has been lovingly restored form the ground up, to provide exceptionally comfy accommodation complete with wood burner and traditional Aga to cook and warm the house. The two bedrooms both have en-suite shower rooms and the spacious living room has the original Delabole blue stone slate floor. You really do feel like you are sitting in a little piece of Port Isaac history.
The village is a gem on the dramatic North Cornwall coast and has many outstanding cafés, restaurants and local pubs, some of which are right on the Quayside.
The narrow lanes offer a great opportunity to explore and as you stroll past the old cottages you really feel the charm of this village and how it’s really not changed that much. The day boats that leave the harbour are a great source of fresh fish if you fancy a lovely supper cooked on the Aga or on the barbecue in the sunny courtyard, or why not try one of the outstanding local restaurants, a favourite is Nathan Outlaws Fish Kitchen, right on the harbour side so the fish doesn’t come any fresher.
The stretch of coastline that surrounds Port Isaac to the west and east is simply stunning with many great cliff top walks, secluded coves that are sanctuaries for seals, and great coastal towns such as Tintagel, Polzeath, Rock, Padstow and Bude, making Port Isaac the perfect base to tour this amazing county.
For the active, the Camel Trail is a flat cycle and walking trail that hugs the shoreline of the pretty River Camel that flows inland from Padstow. Why not hire a bike and cycle to Wadebridge for lunch? The town of Polzeath with its surf culture is a great place to hire some gear and have a go at this exciting sport. For golfers this area is well covered with many outstanding golf clubs many with spa’s including St Enedoc, The Point and Trevose. Truro, Fowey, St Ives and Newquay are all easily reached making Bar Cottage the perfect base to enjoy every aspect of Cornwall. Beach 100 yards. Shop 100 yards, pub and restaurant 75 yard
