Great Ayton Lodge is sure to delight, with its bright, welcoming and modern open plan living area, brimming with character. Indulge in a lovingly made home cooked meal together or treat yourself to a local take away and relax in front of the flickering flames of the multi-fuel burner. Glass folding doors open the whole room onto the garden, which backs onto a field with woodland beyond, and the added Velux windows ensure you are bathed in light and connecting with the outdoors. The garden has an inviting seating area, perfect for enjoying a glass or two of wine in the sun. There is a separate snug with a TV and a cosy sofa to unwind on as you catch up your favourite shows after a day of exploring.

Great Ayton was the boyhood home of the voyager Captain Cook, who navigated across thousands of miles of unmapped waters to become the first European to discover Australia, Hawaii and New Zealand. You can visit the Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum nearby as well as the Captain Cook Memorial Garden or his monument perched high up on the moors. There is a wonderful circular route from the monument to Roseberry Topping which is very popular with walkers due to its breathtaking views from its peak.
Just 10 minutes away you is Guisborough, with a woodland walking trail as well as the Guisborough Priory.

The abbey ruins are hauntingly beautiful with huge stone arches framing the valleys and sky beyond. In spring and summer the grounds are bursting with flowers, from bright daffodils to wild garlic. Less than a 30-minute drive away is the coast, where you have Saltburn, a surfers’ paradise, with a Victorian pier and cliff lift as well as a golden stretch of sand and shingle. The North Yorks Moors National Park is over 500 square miles of hills and dales, with ancient forest and woodlands, waterfalls and expanses of heather as far as the eye can see. This is a haven for wildlife, and a delight to explore. Many of the walking trails feature pubs, where you can rest and enjoy a hearty meal whilst mingling with friendly locals who are sure to recommend some of their favourite beauty spots. Beach 11 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.
