Extra Amenities

Byre was originally part of a stone barn built in 1871 with a cowshed below, it is reached by a rough track and has been sympathetically converted into a comfortable, quirky hayloft set over three floors. Many of the original features are still in place and the windows look out over woodland, fell, cobbled yard, and farmyard. With 70 acres of grazing land around the house and the remainder peaty moorland which is perfect for the owners rare breed Dales bred ewes and white shorthorn cattle. Nethergill Farm is a natural lovers dream, located at the head of the River Wharfe, and home to a myriad of different habitats for birds, fish, mammals and insect life, including red squirrels.

There is new and mature woodland, hay meadows, fells and Oughtershaw Beck just waiting to be explored.
The nature barn is a firm favourite with holiday makers and passers by alike and has a selection of maps, guides and books to make the most of the area. Heading away from Nethergill Farm you are surrounded by mile upon mile of spectacular Yorkshire Dales walking and cycling routes, with the famous Dales Way and the Pennine Way right on your doorstep. This is the perfect place to base yourself for exploring the amazing beauty that this part of the world is famous for. There is easy access to Wharfedale, Wensleydale, Swaledale, Bishopdale, Littondale and many more.

The market town of Hawes is nearby with numerous pubs, shops and restaurants along with visitor attractions including the Wensleydale Creamery. The picturesque villages of Reeth and Hardraw with its art gallery, tearoom and craft shop, and a traditional inn serving food are easily reached. For a day trip the Lake District begins just over an hour away and the North York Moors and nearby market towns such as Thirsk and Northallerton are a similar distance. Shop 8 miles, pub and restaurant 6 miles.
Byre can be booked together with Hay Mew (UK2514) to accommodate up to 8 guests.
