There is an excellent choice of eating places, pubs and coffee shops. The famous Norman castle dominates the skyline, with circular walks around the riverbanks taking you past The Station, a bustling centre hosting art and craft exhibitions, a three-screen cinema, café, independent shops, a micro-brewery and an ice cream parlour.

On the same site there is an indoor swimming pool and health club.
Richmond, known as the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, is well placed to visit Swaledale, Wensleydale and the North York Moors National Park. The Coast to Coast walk passes by The Station and through Swaledale, but there are also many other walks to be enjoyed. Nearby Reeth is a good starting point for walks and cycling. Visit the Wensleydale Creamery or Leyburn, a charming town with a Friday market in the main square, and nearby Middleham has a magnificent castle and is also well known for its horse racing stables. There are a number of waterfalls in the area including Hardraw Force near Hawes and pretty Aysgarth Falls. Shop, pub and restaurant 500 yards.
