Extra Amenities

The Compass Rose, a lovely example of a terraced Georgian town house, offers elegant accommodation over three floors. Built around 1730, the house stands on the foundations of a medieval stone cottage. Brimming with original features, this home successfully combines old-world charm with contemporary style. Outside, the sweeping stone steps lead up to the quirkily shaped front door. Inside, the generously proportioned rooms are light and airy thanks to the large Georgian sash windows. The elegant bathroom with its roll-top bath and double shower, and the characterful kitchen/dining room with hand-built units and window seat, bring modern touches to this historic property. The open fire and original wood-clad walls in the cosy living room make it an inviting place to return to after a day out exploring, and the comfortable, stylish bedrooms are a haven of calm.

This charming house also has the benefit of a delightful enclosed garden. With a small lawn and flagged dining area, it is a wonderful place to relax on a sunny day or warm summer’s evening - and if you stand in the right spot you even get a view of the lighthouse! Situated on a quiet street, yet only a couple of minutes’ stroll from the busy harbour and seafront, The Compass Rose is perfectly positioned to enjoy the delights of this lovely seaside town. The North Bay and South Bay beaches as well as Scarborough Castle are within easy walking distance, as is the town centre with its many bars and restaurants. The Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough Spa and the Open Air Theatre provide plenty of great entertainment throughout the year.

For walkers and lovers of the outdoors there is easy access to the Cleveland Way and the North Yorkshire Moors National Park.
If you feel like venturing a little further afield, it is only a short drive north to Whitby and the quaint village of Robin Hood’s Bay, or south to the resorts of Filey and Bridlington. This area also boasts many stately homes such as Castle Howard, Sledmere House, Burton Agnes Hall and Sewerby Hall. Visits to the ruined monasteries of Rievaulx Abbey and Fountains Abbey are a must for history lovers, and the medieval city of York can be reached in less than an hour by train or by car. Beach 500 yards. Shop and pub 300 yards, restaurant 500 yards
