Extra Amenities

Croft Cottage is located in the peaceful village of Newholm on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, just 2 miles from the very popular fishing village of Whitby and 2 miles from the sought-after seaside village of Sandsend. Adjoining the owner’s home, this two-storey cottage is built from the shell of an 1800s property and has a contemporary interior which retains much of the original charm including the amazing beams running throughout the lower floor. There are three good-sized bedrooms on the first floor, and a contemporary kitchen leads into both the dining room and living room, creating a social flow for both family and couples alike. There is an amazing view from the enclosed rear garden, which has plenty of space in which to relax and enjoy a drink after a day exploring, or you can snuggle up in front of the flame-effect fire in winter after a bracing winter walk admiring some of the country’s most fantastic scenery.
Sandsend is an up-and-coming resort with a long sandy beach that is never too busy, several seaside cafés and even a surf school.

Nearby, there is always something happening in the bustling fishing town of Whitby. From the famous Goth Weekenders to Steam Punk Festivals, steam engines festivals and a number of music festivals all year round, this is a very popular place to visit. Whitby was made famous by, amongst other things, the story of Count Dracula. Whitby Abbey sits on top of the East Cliff and looms over the whole resort. Take a walk up the 199 steps for some amazing views down onto the seaside town, or stroll through its cobbled backstreets taking in the variety of shops and boutiques. There is an abundance of bistros and restaurants, tearooms and bars as well as award-winning fish and chip shops, so you’ll never go hungry or thirsty. Whitby also has a 3-mile stretch of golden sandy beach to explore, with donkey rides for the children and plenty of space for a sandcastle or two. The Yorkshire coastline is home to many hidden gems including bays and coves such as Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes, where Captain James Cook served his apprenticeship.

For lovers of the great outdoors, there are hundreds of walks across the North York Moors. The Cleveland Way snakes along cliff tops and down into the beautiful bays if you want to stay coastal, or the Cinder Track leaves Whitby and heads down into the Robin Hood’s Bay. There are also many cycle tracks across the region. The traditional seaside resort of Scarborough is a short drive down the coast and hosts regular live music shows at the open air theatre. Visit its waterpark or take a trip back in time to World War II at Eden Camp Museum in Pickering. Theme park thrills can be found at Flamingo Land or Lightwater Valley, or take a trip to the medieval walled city of York with its many attractions such as the Viking Centre and the National Railway Museum. Beach 2 miles. Shop 1½ miles, pub and restaurant ½ mile
