You cannot get more central than Porters Cottage, right in the heart of the shops, bars and restaurants, but set back far enough away from the hustle and bustle that it makes a perfect retreat. Boasting a private enclosed courtyard and old world features such as beamed rooms, this three storey 1800s cottage makes a perfect romantic getaway for a couple or small family to enjoy. This a wonderful base for exploring all that the bustling town of Whitby has to offer from its secluded location, yet just a stone’s throw from Baxtergate and with all of Whitby’s amenities just a short stroll away.
Whitby is an increasingly popular resort with tourists from all over the world visiting each year.
It is probably most famous for its links to Dracula, the Goth Weekender and the Whitby Regatta, but there is something new in town every year from music festivals to Steam Punk spectaculars. The town has a myriad of shops and bazaars in the cobbled back streets, and boasts a 3-mile long beach that stretches towards the much sought after resort of Sandsend. Whitby is well-known for award winning fish and chips, and wine bars and tea rooms compliment the traditional seaside offerings, as well as its ever increasing number of top class restaurants.
This is the gateway to the North York Moors National Park, and wonderful walks through beautiful countryside are right on your doorstep. If you don’t fancy walking, take a steam train from Whitby into Heartbeat Country and Goathland, where you can still see some of the buildings and businesses used in the much loved TV show, ‘Heartbeat’.
The Yorkshire Heritage Coast is well worth exploring. Here you will find surfing schools and stories of piracy along the coast in stunning bays and coves, such as Staithes, Runswick Bay and Robin Hood’s Bay, as well as Saltburn and Sandsend. Traditional seaside resorts including Scarborough, Bridlington and Filey are easily accessible with attractions including The Sealife Centre, Peasholm Park, two beaches, an outdoor music arena and a water park.
