Porters Rest is a beautifully decorated modern cottage located just a short walk from the centre of this wonderful seaside town. Perfectly situated just a short stroll from the historic sea port of Whitby, with its golden sandy beaches, this well presented terraced cottage provides comfortable and attractive holiday accommodation, and the owner has even thoughtfully provided fluffy bathrobes for your convenience. The property also enjoys spectacular views of the bustling harbour and Whitby Abbey, made famous by Bram Stoker’s ’Dracula’. This property also overlooks the railway line where steam trains and four other train pass by (between 8. 30am and 7. 15pm) as they make their way from Whitby to Grosmont along the scenic North York Moors Railway, perfect for an alternative day out.
The ever popular town of Whitby is host to many year round festivals and events such as the bi-annual Goth Weekend, the Whitby Regatta, Folk Week and many more.
The 3 miles of sandy beach stretch along the coast towards Sandsend. You can join the Cleveland Way walking route as it dips and climbs along some fantastic hidden bays and coves, and stroll along cliff tops boasting amazing views. There is an abundance of places to eat and drink in this coastal town, from bistros and award-winning fish and chips to tea rooms and traditional pubs serving fine ales and offering live music. There are plenty of independent shops dotted around the town and the cobbled back streets, which are worth exploring.
If a steam train ride isn’t for you then why not try a boat trip in search of minke whales and bottlenose dolphins, or hop on the open top bus that offers rides around the town? For the more active, the North York Moors National Park is on your doorstep with a myriad of walking and cycling routes nearby.
Whitby even has its own 18-hole cliff top golf course.
There are many traditional Yorkshire villages and market towns in the area such as Pickering and Helmsley, as well as the Victorian seaside town of Scarborough just along the coast with its two large sandy bays, a Sealife Centre and the Open Air Theatre with international live music acts throughout the summer. Don’t miss the pretty seaside villages of Staithes, Robin Hood’s Bay, Runswick Bay and Sandsend. Beach ½ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 100 yards
