The Old Chocolate Shop is a beautifully decorated, three-storey property right in the heart of Church Street, one of Whitby’s oldest, yet finest, streets which was originally known as Kirkgate and dates back to the 1300s. With a touch of York, a taste of Camden and the culture of Yorkshire, Church Street really is a fabulous place to visit. The cottage itself dates back to the 1800s, but has been lovingly restored to a contemporary standard, offering home comforts whilst still retaining some of its original features, such as the wonderful beams in the bedroom situated on the third floor.
You will find many shops in Whitby to suit a diversity of tastes and needs. This area of town is littered with art galleries, photographic studios, bookshops, quality sweet shops, jewellery stores (including those specialising in Whitby Jet) as well as many great and varied places where you can eat or drink.
Whitby is fast becoming a foodies’ paradise, with many different outlets ranging from those offering award-winning fish and chips, to bistros and pubs serving home-cooked food.
Explore the 3 miles of beach, take a trip out on a boat or climb the 199 steps up to the abbey to be rewarded with a fantastic view of the town and harbour. Stroll around the famous abbey and St Mary’s Church, made famous by its links to Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’. Keep an eye out for one of the many festivals and events going on in Whitby, including music festivals, the Whitby Goth Weekend and the annual regatta. Other coastal attractions worth a visit include Staithes, Robin Hood’s Bay and Scarborough.
Whitby is set along the Yorkshire Heritage Coast so it is ideal for hikers and bikers who can make the most of the nearby Cleveland Way and National Cycling Network. The North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway departs from the town on a regular basis and snakes it way through ’Heartbeat’ country into the depths of the North York Moors National Park which also has much to offer. The Cinder Track is one of the great walks dotted around this coastal area, or try a stroll around Falling Foss. The medieval walled city of York is just an hour away boasting many attractions such as the National Rail Museum and the Jorvik Viking Centre. Guests staying at the property are given 10% discount in both Daisy James gift shop and the Sanders Yard Bistro. Beach 250 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant 50 yards
