With two stretches of coastline, miles of unspoilt countryside and towns and villages full of west-country character, Devon has all the ingredients for a memorable holiday. From sunny coastal cottages near Sidmouth to spacious converted barns on Exmoor and moorland hideaway retreats on Dartmoor, there's a great range of self-catering accommodation in Devon to choose from as a base for exploration. Exeter is a vibrant university town and the historic capital of Devon and the main town on the south coast of Devon is Exmouth. The beaches in the west country are wonderful and if you want to rent a holiday cottage on the Jurassic coast near Budleigh Salterton, Sidmouth, Branscombe. Beer or Dawlish then you will find a great choice of self catering houses to let in this lovely part of Devon.
The south coast of Devon is known as the English Riviera as the climate is mild - it is a wonderful part of Devon for a self-catering holiday. If you want to rent a holiday cottage in Torquay, Paignton, Brixham or Torbay then there are some gorgeous rental properties to rent by the sea here. Inland from Torbay is Totnes; a characterful town situated on the River Dart - relax in your holiday home and watch the boats pass by on the river. The south Devon coast is popular with sailors who come to Salcombe in their droves - the pretty Devon harbour and excellent marina is ideal.
Dartmoor is famous for its National Park - there are isolated Devon cottages to rent on Dartmoor which are perfect if you want a peaceful retreat in England. This is an ideal place to stay if you are on a walking holiday as there are miles and miles of remote countryside to explore.
