In the heart of the East of England, Cambridgeshire is much more than Cambridge, brilliant though it is! Lying in the western portion of East Anglia, it is landlocked by Norfolk, Lincolnshire and Suffolk. Like many parts of east Anglia its topography can be summarised as fairly flat with lots of 'fens' or wetlands. The highest point is about 400ft. The River Cam and the Great Ouse are the main waterways and the Cam makes Cambridge what it is. It gently meanders through some of the most startling beautiful buildings in England. Cambridge University is one the most famous places of learning in the world and the Colleges compete to be the most beautiful. Technically in Suffolk, but geographically it looks like it should be in Cambridgeshire, Newmarket is the centre for Flat Racing, or horse racing. The long flat open spaces are ideal for training horses and some of the best studs are found in the area. Wisbech, St Neots and Ely are some of the other places of interest and all over Cambridgeshire are some glorious Stately Homes and Cathedrals.
