Steeped in history, Middleham Castle was once the home of Richard III and it’s remains are a popular attraction for tourists. Also well known for it’s horse racing links, guests will be able to watch the world class racehorses being ridden through the centre of Middleham and out into the gallops at the edge of the village. The barn is also close to East Witton, a quiet village with two pubs and from which you can enjoy a pleasant, low level walk to Jervaulx Abbey. Guests will find many footpaths along the banks of the river which flows just behind Curlew Barn. Jervaulx Abbey was once a great Cistercian monastery and is certainly worth a visit to explore the history and also to enjoy a spot of lunch in the popular tea rooms. A little further afield but still within walking distance, guests will find footpaths leading up hills and down dales, through natural, unspoilt woodland and open countryside, to many attractive Yorkshire towns and villages situated just a few miles away.
