Extra Amenities

Russell Cottage makes an excellent base to explore the wild heather-capped Cheviot hills to the west and the Heritage coastline to the east.
Alnwick offers a wide array of facilities including a selection of places to eat and drink. Barter Books is a popular visitor attraction and Alnwick Castle and Gardens are also well worth a visit. The Castle is home to the Duke of Northumberland and was one of the film locations for Harry Potter, and the gardens have a treehouse restaurant as well as a grand cascading waterfall that visitors will enjoy.
Heading towards the coast for 4 miles will bring you to Alnmouth, with its glorious sandy beach and two prestigious golf courses. Travelling 10 miles west, brings you to the pretty town of Rothbury, which sits at the foot of the Simonside hills and where the river Coquet ebbs and flows. The National Trust property of Cragside sits at the cusp of Rothbury and is also a popular visitor attraction. Beach 5 miles. Shop ¼ mile, pub and restaurant ⅓ mile.
