In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Weardale is a lovely dale with rugged scenery, great walking and cycling, and easy access to the attractions of Northumbria.

Head 30 miles east to Durham city, or north to Hadrian's Wall country. Alternatively, the local vicinity has many pleasant towns and villages, such as Stanhope, Frosterley and Wolsingham in the dale.

Also nearby is Teesdale, another beautiful area famous for the spectacular High Force waterfall

Accommodation

This is a gorgeous stone cottage, with stone flagged floors (bring your slippers!) on the ground floor. The bedrooms are on the first floor, each one served by its own staircase.

The bathroom is on the ground floor, and has a shower (no bath), toilet and handbasin. The double bedroom has an ensuite toilet and handbasin. The lovely sitting room has a solid fuel stove (very cosy!); and there is a separate dining room and kitchen with microwave, electric cooker, toaster and coffee machine.

There is a utility room with washer/dryer; the utility room can also be used for secure bike storage.

At the front of the property is a private garden. The house is very convenient for the local shop/post office.

Directions

From Scotch Corner on the A1, take A68 towards Corbridge, then turn onto the A689 towards Wolsingham and Frosterley. Travel west until you reach Stanhope, then continue a further 5 miles Through Eastgate and then finally reach Westgate and the self-catering cottage.

Change over day is Saturday.
