This beautiful 17th century, cottage sits in the heart of this popular village of Bassenthwaite. The location is beautiful by a stream where puddle ducks wander to and fro and swings in a small wooded area, it is only a couple of minutes’ walk to the village pub serving local ales and meals and the village green which is ideal for playing ball games only 15 minutes drive from the thriving town of Keswick. There is a spacious and comfortable living room with a wood burner with chunky oak beams and superb red brick feature-fireplace, a spacious, well-equipped open plan kitchen/dining room and a ground floor double bedroom. On the first floor there is a family room with a double bed and a single bed benefiting from an en-suite. There is also an additional bath/shower room with toilet.
Brook House Holiday Cottages are located in the heart of Bassenthwaite village in the northern region of The Lake District National Park, Cumbria, approximately 15-minute drive from the towns of Keswick and Cockermouth.
This is an excellent base to explore some of the quieter corners of the Lake District. Bassenthwaite village is 2 miles from the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake (an ideal walk to the only official lake in the Lake District) and 2 miles from the foot of Skiddaw, the fourth highest mountain in the Lake District. There are excellent walks for all abilities straight from the cottage door or after a short drive away.
The Lake District Wildlife Park is just a 5-minute drive from the cottage, while Mirehouse historic house and adventure playgrounds is under 10 minutes drive towards Keswick, and this is one of the places from which you can sometimes view the osprey birds of prey, which have made Bassenthwaite Lake their home for the past 10 summers.
The Lakes Distillery is under 10 minutes drive towards Cockermouth offering guided tours, or for those wanting to treat themselves with some pampering, there is a spa just 5 minutes drive from the cottage. Keswick is a magnet for the Lake District visitor with Lake Derwentwater, several parks including crazy golf, mini golf and putting, all its outdoor shops, cafés, restaurants, galleries, museum, cinema, theatre, brewery and more. Cockermouth has a visitor centre, antique shops, Jennings Brewery, Wordsworth House (the birthplace of the poet William Wordsworth), the annual food festival in September and a good selection of unique independent shops and eateries. Nearest shops in Keswick or Cockermouth, 15 minutes drive or many supermarkets do on-line deliveries, pub and restaurant 200 yards.
