With Black Combe Hill being the main focal point of Kirkby in Furness, the village is quiet and peaceful. The area is great for families with small children, for birdwatchers, walkers, and cyclists. A range of abilities are catered for.
A circular walk from your front door takes in an array of farmyard animals. Drop down to Foxfield to experience a panoramic view of the spectacular hill range. Take a seat at Wallend, just a stone’s throw from the cottage, where the details of the fells and crags are immortalised in bronze and the sun sets every night. Explore Beckside’s Listed 12th century St. Cuthberts Church, the thriving community hall hosts local sports and has a tennis court and play area.
Take a drive up over Kirby moor to the picturesque historic market town of Ulverston, with its quaint shops, cafés, and upmarket grocery stores. Barrow-in-Furness, a short drive away, is home to shops, a cinema, Furness-Abbey (EnglishHeritage) and The Dock Museum which may be more to your taste if you like ships.
In the lake District, you’re never far from water, and beautiful Coniston can be reached in under 15 minutes by car. Perfect for families and recreation, the gentle pebble banks allow for paddling, swimming, and a wide range of water sports.
For those who prefer more tranquil pursuits, there are several National trust properties including Dalton Castle to explore, Sandscale Haws National Nature Reserve, South Lakes Safari Zoo and Birkrigg stone circle. The Motor Museum houses the Bluebird collection. There are seven Michelin starred restaurants in the Lake District area, theatres, cinemas, pubs, and cafés for you to enjoy.
