Situated beside the South-West Coastal Path, Riverside Mews is a relaxing, end-terraced riverside house that provides great holiday accommodation regardless of the time of year. The outside area, garden and garden furniture are well maintained with the addition of a parasol. The property enjoys stunning views across the River Torridge from the garden, and there’s a short, level walk along the river to one side, and Bideford’s Victoria Park on the other, some 400 yards away. The path leads through the park (home to Burton Art Gallery and Museum and the Café du Parc) and on to the pretty port town of Bideford, with its pastel-coloured houses alongside a tree-lined quay. The park and its play areas are great for the young (and young at heart) with numerous playing fields, a small pool and a skateboard park nearby.
Take a boat trip to the nature reserve at Lundy Island, which offers the chance to see seals and dolphins, or there are many a pretty fishing village to explore in the area, such as Clovelly, Instow and Appledore. Just 2 miles away, the vast golden sandy beach of Westward Ho! is popular with surfers, and if you’d rather stay a little closer to home, you can saunter along the coastal path that follows the river, yards from the water’s edge. The nearest slipway is 200 yards downriver, whilst keen cyclists and walkers can join the Tarka Trail, which passes through Bideford.
There’s an array of shops and restaurants a short stroll from the quayside. Golfers can head to one of the two great links golf courses nearby (the closest being The Royal North Devon Golf Course – the oldest in England and just 2 miles away), and other activities available nearby include kayaking, horse riding, fishing, bowling, football and rugby.
For family fun, The Big Sheep and The Milky Way adventure parks are both within a short drive, and there are two theatres in the vicinity.
With such a reliable local transport, exploring the area couldn’t be easier. Leave the car behind, and put the fantastic bus service to good use – head to Westward Ho! Appledore, Bideford, Instow, Barnstaple, Braunton or Ilfracombe, and as the frequent buses run from before 6am till after 11pm, you can spend all day getting to know the area intimately well. Shop and pub ½ mile, restaurants 1 mil
