Dating back to the 1850s, sympathetically converted and retaining many of the original features is this charming barn conversion. This adjoining holiday cottage oozes character and is located in Newton-upon-Rawcliffe, a quiet laid back village that boasts a duck pond and a traditional pub serving excellent food. Newton-upon-Rawcliffe is surrounded by stunning country walks and cycle tracks to suit all ages, ideal for that family get together or celebrating that special occasion. Just
4 miles from the historic market town of Pickering where the cobbled streets are lined with an eclectic mix of shops, inns and tea rooms. From here guests can board the NorthYorkshire Moors Steam Train, sit back and relax as it chugs its way through the stunning Esk Valley into ‘Heartbeat’s’ villages of Goathland and Grosmont.
Pickering hosts many festivals throughout the year, including the renowned Steam Traction Rally, and fascinating war weekend in October, when the streets are packed with visitors from far and wide dressed in their 1940’s outfits. At this time, the streets and the railway station are transported back to days gone by, a fabulous weekend for all ages. There’s a weekly market, and Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo is just 10 miles. With easy access to the Heritage Coast of Yorkshire, you can take in Whitby, known for its connections with James Cook and Bram Stoker,
18 miles, continuing along the road to Robin Hood’s Bay, a former smuggler’s cove, then Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington, all boasting miles of sandy beaches, donkey rides, fun palaces and fairs.
A more sophisticated day can be enjoyed at the walled city of York with excellent shopping. Take in the street entertainers and maybe a boat trip along the river. Visit the art galleries and museums before returning to the comfort of Featherstone Cottage. There is so much to do and see in this area you may find yourself returning again and again. Shops 4 miles, pub 100 yards.
