Dating back to the 1600s, Liverton Lodge Farmhouse is an imposing, sandstone farmhouse, situated in open countryside near the hamlet of Liverton, with fine views towards the coast, 2 miles away. A wonderful property located opposite the ruined Kilton Castle, Liverton Lodge Farmhouse has many original features including fine oak panelling, exposed stone walls and beamed ceilings. There are two large sitting rooms, one with an open fire and window seats overlooking the lodge’s large walled garden. Upstairs there are lovely views across the garden to the woods and farmland beyond. The wonderful lawned gardens attract many species of birds around the year including woodpeckers, finches and various wild birds.
The village of Danby is 7 miles away and nestles in the beautiful and peaceful Esk Valley, in the heart of the North York Moors. There is an excellent National Park Visitor Centre at Danby Lodge – a historic building set in 13 acres of riverside pasture, with facilities which include exhibitions, nature trails and tea rooms.
Danby also boasts the ruins of a 14th century castle and the only remaining working water mill on the River Esk. The scenic Esk Valley Railway line runs through the village on its way to Whitby. There are literally 100s of walks in the surrounding areas including Handale Abbey Trail, Grinkle Mine Trail, The Saxon Princess trail and The Cleveland Way which runs along the coastal path across the top of the cliffs and down into the picturesque coves and bays such as Skinningrove, with its double bay and mining museum, Staithes with its links to Captain Cook and the beautiful Robin Hoods Bay. Saltburn-by-the-Sea is just one of the coastal towns offering a surf school, miles of beach and traditional pier. Saltholme RSPB site is further north along the coast, with its visitor centre and variety of wild birds that are attracted to the unique mix of seaside, grassy areas and industry and you will find the seals of Seal Sands just along the road.
The quaint moorland villages of Hutton-le-Hole and Lastingham, the market town of Pickering and the walled city of York are all within driving distance, as are history museums such as Eden and Beamish.
The popular seaside town of Whitby is just 10 miles to the south with its many year round festivals and events such as the bi-annual Goth Weekender, The Steampunk Festivals, regatta and many music events and is well worth a visit. It also boast many great restaurants, cafés and bars as well as its most famous attraction, Whitby Abbey, made famous by Bram Stokers Dracula. Beach 5 miles. Shop and pub 1 mile, restaurant 3 miles
