Situated in the heart of Whitby, it lies just a stones throw from the harbour and shops. Take advantage of the golden beach stretching from Whitby to Sandsend, which forms part of the stunning Yorkshire and Cleveland Heritage Coast, home to towering cliffs, rocky shores, steep wooded valleys, sheltered bays and sandy beaches. It is a coastline of dramatic views, with the highest point on the east coast of England found at Boulby, near Staithes, where the cliffs are a mighty 200 metres high. Photographic villages and tranquil bays are dotted along the coast.
Away from the beach, there is plenty to keep all ages entertained.
Take the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey, which is said to be the inspiration behind Bram Stoker’s novel, Dracula, or explore the myriad of goth and curio shops. Famous for its fish and chip shops, Whitby also has a continually improving contemporary scene with wine bars and restaurants. Further afield is the North York Moors National Park, where you can take a ride on the steam train and see some stunning scenery. Alternatively, explore the traditional seaside town of Scarborough, the medieval walled city of York or the theme parks of Lightwater Valley and Flamingo Land Resort. Beach ½ mile.
