Steeped in character and boasting period features, Star Cottage is a Grade II listed property. Originally known to be a ‘hall house’, it was built during the reign of Henry VIII and is located in the heart of the charming historical town of Eye, with eateries and cafes within walking distance. Boasting exposed timber beams and a wood burner, there is even a ‘witch’s mark’ on the fireplace mantle, originally made to protect the cottage from evil forces entering. The property has been lovingly restored and furnished to offer a wonderful holiday, in keeping and complimentary of its era. The living room boasts full timber frame beams and a wood burner to enjoy on a chilly evening, after a day of exploring. The spacious dining room is a great place to host meals or celebrations, whilst a lovely garden room offers the perfect place to simply sit and relax.
Spoilt for choice, there are three bedrooms, the master with an en-suite toilet and a timber framed single bedroom with a privacy curtain, leading to a family bedroom boasting both a double and a single bed. Completing the character of the property, there are some low beam doorways and sloping floors.
Eye and the surrounding area offers so much to see and do. Eye itself has many amenities, including a variety of curio shops, cafes and local eateries, and the streets are lined with historical wealth. Eye is situated on the River Dove and has castle relics, an impressive church and a guildhall. Well worth a visit is Eye castle, being one of the few remaining motte and bailey medieval castles, the site has been restored and revamped with viewing platforms and wonderful views of Eye and its surrounding countryside.
The area has an abundance of footpaths and circular routes, a real paradise for walkers. Quiet lanes and countryside routes offer great cycle opportunities. Located in the beautiful Waveney Valley on the Suffolk/Norfolk border means it is within easy reach of the historic city of Norwich, the Norfolk Broads, and many market towns including; Diss, Bury St Edmunds, with its market square with Abbey ruins, Ipswich for shopping and marina with waterside restaurants and inns, Woodbridge, Framlingham complete with castle, and Debenham for antique shops. Explore the heritage coastline havens of Southwold, Dunwich, Aldeburgh, and peaceful Walberswick. Within an hours’ drive you could be amongst wonderful Lavenham, Clare and Cavendish, and the university city of Cambridge. Beach 28 miles. Shop 300 yards, pub 350 yards, restaurant 250 yards.
