Recognised from its appearance as ‘Royston Vasey’ in TV’s ‘The League of Gentlemen’, Glossop is also renowned for the sheer amount of nearby outdoor activities, from walking, cycling and mountain biking, to rock climbing, hang gliding and caving. The traffic-free Longendale Trail can also be picked up in Glossop, which stretches for 7 miles from Hadfield to Woodhead Tunnel, and is accompanied by spectacular scenery.

Slightly closer to home you’ll find the award-winning Millennium Walkway, and superb Torrs sandstone gorge at New Mills (15 minutes away). The wonderful village of Hayfield neighbours Glossop, and is popular with walkers due its close proximity to Kinder Scout. Hayfield caters well for tourists with its own collection of pubs, cafés and restaurants. If you’re looking for city life, the bright lights of Manchester are just a half hour’s drive away, or 30 minutes on a direct train from Glossop. Shop 170 yards, pub and restaurant 20 yards.
