Alice Cottage in Oundle, Northamptonshire - 1 bedroom, sleeps 2

Our two bedroom units cost from £370 to £630 per week and the single roomed cottage from £260 to £370. Perfect vacation retreat!

The cottage is situated in rural Northamptonshire, close to town of Oundle and convenient for walking in the lovely wooded Nene Valley, exploring manor houses and gardens, picturesque market towns and country pubs as well as plenty of activities for children. The area has wildlife in abundance - Ospreys and Eagle Owls have been spotted on the farm, as well as a herd of roe deer. The ancient woodland above the Nene Valley is a mosaic of habitats and a haven for walkers. The local trails are too many and various to mention individually, save that the Nene Way passes through the farm so you can access it immediately.

The region has some pretty market towns - Kimbolton is nearly perfect with its Georgian High Street, and Oakham and Uppingham are also lovely.

Stamford is picture postcard stuff, a Georgian coaching town that will be familiar to viewers of costume dramas while the beautiful city of Cambridge is also easily accessible. All the towns offer many good places to eat out - almost always in pubs where the food is in many cases gastro pub level.

Oundle itself has all the basic shops you'll need; a good butcher, a greengrocer, a deli and a Co-Op, as well as a selection of coffee shops, a gallery and a pottery which have good exhibitions from time to time. There's a golf club, if you fancy a round.

Northamptonshire has some of the most famous country homes and gardens in the country - Elton Hall, Burghley, home of the famous Horse Trials, and Althorp, the seat of the Spencers where you can see the memorial exhibition to the Princess of Wales.

For children, Barnwell Country Park has exciting nature trails and a fantastic playground. Hamerton Zoo Park is another fabulous day out for kids - where you'll see Cheetahs, Maned Wolves, Bengal Tigers and lots more. Cycling, walking, fishing and general outdoor pursuits for all the family are on offer at Stanwick Lakes, Grafham Water and Rutland Water. Or the pictureesque Nene Valley Railway can transport you through beautiful unspoilt countryside in a steam locomotive.

Northhamptonshire's abundance of historic churches are well represented near the cottage - St Peter's, Oundle, has a majestic spire, visible as you walk behind the trees at the back of your holiday home

What's included

Alice Cottage is a luxury self catering holiday cottage in a beautiful rural location between Peterborough, Northampton and Cambridge. It offers a peaceful haven for two wishing to enjoy a comfortable and restful holiday in Northamptonshire. The 5 star accommodation has been created from a traditional farm building in a secluded setting. It is over a mile from the main farmhouse and half a mile from the nearest road. The cottage has commanding views over the Nene Valley through French doors that open onto patio areas.

The accommodation is fully M3i compliant for the benefit of the less mobile. This is not a unit for the disabled as such but a beautiful living space that can be adapted on request for those with impaired mobility. As well as having wider doors and adequate space in all rooms to navigate a wheelchair, the kitchen sink is low enough to be able to wash up or prepare veg while seated, work surfaces are a little lower, and there is an oven at a more convenient height too. In addition, the dining table legs can be lengthened, rugs removed and a ramp put inside the unit to facilitate navigation of a wheelchair over the threshold. Two-way radios provide excellent communications for a carer or for someone who wants to walk on the tracks but wants to stay in touch with others.

Internally, the cottage has been fitted out to the highest standards and the décor is enhanced by a collection of paintings and fabrics sourced from all over the world. The cottage is equipped with everything you would expect at home plus a lot more: there is free wireless internet throughout. The sitting room has a digital tv, DVD recorder, digital radio and CD player and good selection of books, audiobooks and DVDs. In the bedroom, a digital television and DVD player mean you can relax and watch a film in bed if you're feeling lazy! The double bed has a generous bedside space allowing for a wheelchair. The wetroom is fully adapted with retractable rails that facilitate the use of the toilet, and a sit-under shower and bath.

Outside there are gardens to the front and rear with lawns, fruit trees and plenty of space for al-fresco dining - you may have to share some of your dinner with the resident pheasant though!

This property can connect with another cottage to create a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom family cottage for 6. Smoking or Pets are not allowed in Alice Cottage. Depending upon guest requirements, the tables in both the kitchen and sitting room can be raised and rugs can be removed. Please speak to the owner in advance to discuss any specific requirements you may have.
