The living room is also spacious with ample space to sit together in front of the multi-fuel burner, or looking out across the rear garden and countryside beyond. On the first floor is a fabulous master bedroom with kingsize bed, cot, large picture window, dressing room and large en-suite bathroom. There is a second double bedroom with kingsize bed and a sweeping balcony that looks out across the countryside. The third bedroom on this floor offers twin beds. The family bathroom is large and finished to a good standard too, with a separate shower cubicle, heated towel rail and free-standing bath. On the second floor is a double bedroom and a larger fifth bedroom, which would be ideal as a family suite as it offers a kingsize bed and a single bed.

With a cast of 1000 volunteers, pyrotechnics, fireworks and burning lake the performance celebrates 2000 years of history, myths and legends. Shildon Railway Museum is also a popular place to visit and is just over 3 miles away as well as Binchester Roman Fort and Auckland Castle. Further north but still within a 10 mile radius, guests will be able to visit and explore the cathedral city of Durham which has recently been awarded World Heritage Site status. Durham Cathedral and Durham Castle are both steeped in history and sit at the centre of the city which is also well known for its year round entertainment and festivals as well as the many boutiques, cafés and restaurants. Most famous as a university city, guests with friends and family that are studying there will find Applegarth House the perfect place to stay when visiting or attending graduation ceremonies.
