Quietly nestled away just 1½ miles away from the popular village of Lanchester and just 10 miles from the city of Durham, Sycamore Cottage is the perfect destination for guests wanting to relax and unwind, or to explore the North East. The owners live nearby, so help is always at hand. This detached property lends itself to couples who’re looking for a romantic break – Lanchester features a superb selection of places to eat including three local pubs, an Italian restaurant and a traditional fish and chip shop. It is also ideal for guests who enjoy walking and cycling, as there are numerous established public footpaths, walks and cycle paths that lead from the cottage and out into the beautiful countryside of County Durham. One of these walks takes you alongside the River Browney and down towards the village, a most scenic walk that’s not to be missed! Keen long-distance runners will likely be interested in the Great North Run half marathon, and there’s also the Durham County Cricket Club just 11 miles away.

The beautiful hills and valleys of Teesdale and Weardale are both under a 30-minute drive, and walkers will find themselves surrounded by some of the most evocative landscapes the UK has to offer. Hadrian’s Wall can be reached within an hour’s drive, and the Derwent Valley Railway Path leads east towards the outskirts of Durham, a very popular trail with cyclists, whilst the Waskerley Way leads westward into the vast open spaces of Weardale.

Sycamore Cottage caters for all manner of holidaymakers.

Just 10 miles away, guests can explore the heritage of the cathedral city of Durham, which offers a broad range of attractions throughout the year. The bi-annual Lumiere festival is a must-see, as well as the yearly miners’ gala, jazz festival, poetry festival and book week. Also ideal for parents wanting to visit children, family members or friends who are studying at Durham University or celebrating graduation, Sycamore Cottage is a convenient base for exploring the historic hub.
