Both are sure to offer a relaxing night’s sleep. Refresh in the family bathroom before starting your Northumbrian adventure with a visit to Dunstanburgh Castle, a stone’s throw away from Rocky’s Cottage. This medieval castle dominates the golden coast and really does take your breath away. Take a picnic and relax to the sound of the waves, don’t forget to explore the shore! Keep an eye on the rock pools that dot the rocky reefs of our shores which are full of sea creatures.

Look out for sea urchins, star fish, and other creatures that are regularly exposed by our low tides. Watch out for wading birds such as oyster catchers, dunlin and redshanks that are also regular visitors. A real walkers paradise; you can also take advantage of The Secret Trail walk and the well-known spooky Ghost Walk!
After a great day of exploring why not head to the village pub and enjoy a hearty meal with some local beverages. A nice short stroll or scenic drive brings you into the beautiful village of Craster where you can tuck into some famous Craster kippers! A short drive north brings you to the bustling, pretty fishing village of Seahouses with an attractive harbour, situated on the beautiful Northumbrian coast in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Seahouses offers a variety of shops and a good selection of inns, pubs and eating places. Offering miles of splendid sandy beaches and the opportunity to visit the bird sanctuary or seal colony on the famousFarne Islands with boat trips running daily from Seahouses, is not to be missed.

Cosy up with some award winning fish and chips on the beach and watch some magnificent sunsets and then finish off with a well-deserved ice cream! A short drive south brings you to the historic market town of Alnwick. Begin with a trip to the incredible and famous Alnwick Castle, one of the largest inhabited castles in the UK and used as Hogwarts when filming scenes for the Harry Potter films so it’s a must-visit for any fans, with Harry Potter related events organised here throughout the year as well as guided tours. The Alnwick Garden is also an exciting visit with its spectacular interpretation of a formal garden, including the Grand Cascade waterfall, Poison Garden and largest tree house in Europe where guests can dine in the restaurant. Don’t forget to visit Barter Books, unwind with a hot drink and a great book and take in the magical surroundings of what this impressive building has on offer!
