Quietly nestled away in rural County Durham, Durham Country Cottages are in the most fabulous location for exploring the north east counties of Durham and Northumberland and the city of Newcastle. Only a few miles away from major transport links, yet set in almost 18 acres of the owner’s, unspoilt grounds these three cottages, Bramble Cottage (ref UKC1820), Kestrel Cottage (ref UKC1821) and Hazel Cottage (ref UKC1822) really do give guests the best of both worlds. All three cottages have been finished to a good standard and offer light, spacious and airy accommodation and a baby bath and steriliser are available on request. All on one level and ideal for the less mobile guests, you will find an open plan living room and kitchen area with wooden floors, underfloor heating and French doors leading out to a fenced patio area. The views from each property are super and look out across open fields and countryside. Perfect for couples wanting to enjoy a romantic break, families wanting to get together, or friends looking to enjoy a reunion or celebration. For those who enjoy walking or cycling, there are numerous established public footpaths and walks that lead from the grounds and out into the nearby villages, including the old mining villages and communities of Shotton, Peterlee, Easington and Blackhall Colliery.
The Durham Heritage Coast can be reached in under a 15-minute drive and is only an 8-mile walk away for the energetic wanting to enjoy an afternoon at one of the fabulous beaches that line the north east coast, including Seaham, Crimdon and Easington beaches. Shotton Airfield hosts the only skydiving school in the north east so be sure to book ahead if a skydive is to be part of your holiday!
Just a 10-mile drive away takes you to the historic City of Durham. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the City of Durham is filled with a variety of historic sites and popular visitor attractions that are centuries old. Durham Castle and cathedral must be visited to appreciate the awe inspiring architecture. The Gala Theatre is located in the centre of the city, making the cottages the location for guests wanting to enjoy a theatre trip as part of their break. Packed with top quality restaurants, bistros, cafés and bars, Durham is a thriving city with plenty of entertainment at any time of the year.
The incredible Lumiere Festival takes place every second November, or then annual book week, jazz festival, arts festival, miners gala and many more free attractions, as well as the weekly farmers’ market. Many of the university colleges and campuses can be found within a 10 mile radius of the cottages, and this is the ideal base to get to know the university and visit friends and family who might be attending one of the graduation ceremonies.
