This beautifully converted barn offers high-quality accommodation for up to four guests, ideal for couples, families or friends looking for a mix of countryside charm and city convenience. The ground floor features two en-suite bedrooms, one with a fixed king-size bed, the other with a zip/link bed that can be set up as either a king-size or twin. Both bathrooms include modern showers, and all linens, towels and luxury toiletries are provided. Upstairs, the spacious open-plan living area is warm and welcoming, with comfy seating, a Freeview TV, a DVD player, and a well-equipped kitchen with an electric range cooker, coffee machine, dishwasher, and washing machine.
A private, secure courtyard garden offers a sunny spot to relax, and there’s free Wi-Fi and ample private parking.

The cottage is child-friendly, with a cot, highchair and stair gates available, and little one’s love helping feed the chickens on the farm.
Despite its rural feel, The Hay Loft is perfectly located for exploring the Northeast. Just 3. 5 miles away lies Durham City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of England’s most beautiful and historic destinations. Spend your day exploring Durham Cathedral and Castle, enjoy a walk along the River Wear, or browse the city’s many independent shops, cafes and museums. Durham also boasts a vibrant cultural calendar, with events, concerts and exhibitions held throughout the year. A short walk from the cottage takes you to the village of Brancepeth, home to the impressive Brancepeth Castle and a highly regarded golf course.
Further afield, the award-winning Beamish Museum offers an unforgettable day out. This open-air living history museum recreates life in the Northeast through the ages, complete with working trams, vintage shops, and costumed actors.

For a truly spectacular evening, don’t miss Kynren in nearby Bishop Auckland, an epic outdoor show that brings 2,000 years of British history to life with stunning choreography, music, and special effects. History lovers will also enjoy a visit to Auckland Castle and the Mining Art Gallery. Nature lovers are spoiled for choice too. The Durham Dales offer endless walking opportunities through wild moorland and scenic valleys, while the Durham Heritage Coast provides dramatic cliffs, quiet beaches and coastal trails. Day trips to Hadrian’s Wall, the North York Moors or Cragside in Northumberland offer even more to explore, from Roman ruins to grand houses and gardens.
Whether you’re looking for history, nature, or a relaxing break in beautiful surroundings, The Hay Loft is the perfect base for discovering the best of Durham and the Northeas
