The Lodge was originally the gardener’s cottage for Low Bridges House, built in 1922 in the Arts and Crafts Style by Dr Ethel Williams, Newcastle’s first female GP, liberal thinker and suffragist. This fabulous detached property has a remarkable history with such interesting historical links. The Lodge boasts a fascinating past as well as much more modern accommodation and surroundings. All on one level, the property has been decorated and furnished to a very good standard. With many original features complimenting the modern fixtures and fittings, guests will find the property well thought out and excellently presented. The living/dining room is cosy and welcoming with comfortable seating and a wood burner and provides a peaceful sanctuary in which to relax and unwind. There is a small sitting-out area for guests and a stream running to the rear.
Only a couple of minutes’ drive away from the extremely popular wedding venue of Healey Barn in Riding Mill, The Lodge is also a brilliant place to book for a long weekend or mid-week stay.

Set in such a super area for exploring Northumberland and the north east, The Lodge is the perfect base for guests wanting to enjoy a walking or cycling holiday, as well as a well-deserved romantic break or family getaway. Situated within the owner’s grounds, there are numerous walks and cycle routes that lead out into the countryside and on towards some of the local towns and villages close by. The historic heritage site of Hadrian’s Wall is only 20 minutes away and a hugely popular destination for visitors to the area. The beautiful village of Corbridge is just 4 miles away by foot, bike or car and makes a great destination for a spot of lunch or afternoon tea. With a variety of quaint eateries, bakeries and local pubs, Corbridge is a small town with plenty to enjoy. There are numerous walks along the riverbank, and plenty of boutiques and shops to peruse.


The market town of Hexham is just over 11 miles away and offers guests ample places to visit including Hexham Abbey, Hexham Old Gaol and the cobbled high street which houses a regular farmers market as well as a variety of supermarkets and shops. The leisure centre has a bowling alley, athletics track and swimming pool and the cinema is retro and old fashioned and definitely worth a visit. Hexham Racecourse has regular race days all year round and is well known as the most scenic racecourse in England, so guests staying at The Lodge really ought to enjoy a day at the races as part of their stay. The larger cities of Durham and Newcastle can also be easily reached within a 30-minute drive.
