The Gin Gan Cottage
1 bedroom, sleeps 2

After exploring the beautiful Northumbrian coastline, relax with a glass of wine and enjoy the glorious sunset.

The Gin Gan Cottage is a perfect base for couples either attending a wedding at nearby Matfen Hall, with a gorgeous spa and wonderful afternoon teas, or for those who wish to explore the many delights throughout this unspoilt and friendly county. Ideally located for travelling in all directions, this semi-detached barn conversion is a great base for your holiday or short break. The Gin Gan Cottage has two sitting-out areas, one at the front to enjoy a morning cup of tea in the sun, or to the side, where you can enjoy the afternoon sun. The charming dining room/conservatory is perfect for relaxing and catching the glorious sunsets often seen from this location. The cottage is next to the owners’ home in a tiny hamlet called Ryal, and parts of the property are from the 1800s.

The pretty village church dates back to Norman times and is steeped in history.

The property is set just north of Hadrian’s Wall and only 9 miles from the pretty historic village of Corbridge, with plenty of pubs and tea rooms. It is less than 3 miles from the village of Matfen, a charming, picture postcard village with a pub, shop and tea room, and of course a nearby golf course at Matfen Hall, 2½ miles. Lovely Bolam Lake is only 10 miles away, and there are lots of places of interest nearby. Take a day trip to the beautiful Heritage Coastline, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which is around 25 miles away.

Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland, is only 35 miles away and famed for the Harry Potter and Downton Abbey scenes. Alnwick is a lovely little town with some cobbled streets and of course the Duchess’s Water Gardens. The Sill, a fantastic visitor site at Once Brewed, is a mere 19 miles from the property, and the lovely abbey in Hexham is only 13 miles, and you will also find plenty of shops and pubs in the town. The vibrant city of Newcastle, 22 miles, is well worth a visit to see the bridges, restaurants, theatre and galleries, as well as the wide array of shops, museums and pubs. Beach 24 miles.
